China's growing industry, economic policy upheavals in the USA – and Europe somewhere in between:

Where do the opportunities lie for the Berndorf Group in this environment?

Fortunately, our companies already have a broad international presence – not to relocate production from Europe, but to reach customers directly on site. Especially in times like these, glocalisation – thinking globally, acting locally – is a very sensible approach. When China seems to be almost overwhelming us with its steadily growing industrial competence, it is an advantage that we are already present there and know the needs of the market. And when the USA increasingly distances itself from Europe, it helps us to provide our services directly on site and manufacture products there. It is difficult to predict how Europe's industry will develop. Many companies are relocating due to unfavourable location conditions. Nevertheless, we remain committed to Europe as a location, while at the same time spreading the risk with our international approach and remaining fit for the future.

The motto of this year's edition of Menschen am Werk is #stayconnected. How can this be reconciled with the international path and the turbulent economic policy around the globe?

This is precisely why it is so important to remain in contact. Travel, discussions and contacts: the Berndorf Group stands out because we consistently create spaces where people can come together across company and national boundaries. This happens at workshops, conferences and specialist meetings – whether in controlling, HR or project management. These formats enable personal and professional discussions. I myself also get to know many colleagues from different areas. Another key aspect is the advisory board meetings of our subsidiaries. They bring the management teams and the Executive Board together on a regular basis – not only to discuss the current situation, but also to engage in intensive discussions on topics such as market positioning, competitiveness and customer orientation. In addition, there are trips by the Executive Board or by me personally, such as the trip to Asia in the summer to mark the AICHELIN anniversary.

You mention the board members – a lot has changed in 2025. This change marks the beginning of a new era at Berndorf AG. How are you experiencing this transition?

Thomas Karazmann started in May and has quickly demonstrated how well he fits into our group and culture. He brings a strong combination of experience and fresh perspective. At the same time, Dietmar Müller will remain with the group in a different capacity – for example, through his advisory board roles at Silica and HUECK. So we will continue to #stayConnected with him as well.

“Many companies are relocating due to unfavourable conditions in their current locations. Nevertheless, we remain committed to Europe as a business location. At the same time, we are diversifying risk and ensuring our future viability through our international approach.”
